Pearl Restaurant & Bar (Modern French)

If you're anything like me, then you are a fan of the BBC's Saturday Kitchen with James Martin then you'll likely have heard of chef Jun Tanaka and Pearl restaurant in Holborn, London.

Well since I'd first seen him on Saturday Kitchen and having worked just up the road in Holborn for some months, I was keen to try it. But given how good it is, I wasn't exactly sure when I'd be going.

Well recently it was my birthday and my wonderful partner gave instructions to "come smartly dressed when you meet me". I had no idea what was going on, but then in a large smile said that that was where we were going. The excitement in that moment was immense.

Well what a fantastic restaurant Pearl is, what an amazing meal. The decor and layout of the restaurant was impeccable and our wait staff was well mannered, informative, helpful and paid just the right amount of attention so that anything we needed was available, but wasn't always near the table.

We had the butternut squash and root vegetables as starters, the rabbit and lamb as mains and the tiramisu and trifle for dessert. Each of the meals was beyond reproach. The combination of ingredients, flavours, colours and the arrangement was amazing. If you're getting the feeling that I'm raving, well, quite honestly, I am.

Being not overly wealthy, experiences like these are not that common; so to enjoy this level of London dining and it to be so professional was a real treat. Each meal was not too large in portion and we never had to wait too long between each course as there was a modest warm-up for the next course at well-timed intervals.

Chef Jun definitely is a very fine chef and well deservedly critically acclaimed. Having worked and trained at some of London's best restaurants, such as Le Gavroche and Chez Nico, Chives Restaurant and The Restaurant Marco Pierre White.

If you're planning a night out and want to really indulge, then Pearl Restaurant is the place to go.
